Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy discloses the privacy practices for the Winnetka Park District (“we”, “us” and “our”) and our website (the “Site”).

Information you provide to us

In the course of engaging with us, you may provide information about you or members of your household. We refer to this information as “Personal Information.” Personal Information is often, but not exclusively, provided to us when you create an account to register online, make a purchase, engage with our staff, send us an email, or submit a contact form through our Site. Personal Information may include, but is not limited to, name, phone number, household address, age, gender, and email address. In all cases, the Winnetka Park District strives to collect the minimum information necessary to comply with applicable law or provide the service requested. Unless you ask us not to, we may use the Personal Information you provide to contact you via email or direct mail for marketing purposes.

Information we collect

Like many site operators, when you visit the Site, we automatically collect certain information about your device, including information about your web browser, IP address, and time zone. Additionally, as you browse the Site, we collect information about the individual web pages or products that you view, what websites or search terms referred you to the Site, and information about how you interact with the Site. We refer to this automatically-collected information as “Non-Personal Information.”

We collect Non-Personal Information using the following technologies:

“Log files” track actions occurring on the Site, and collect data including your IP address, browser type, Internet service provider, referring/exit pages, and date/time stamps.

“Tags,” and “pixels” are electronic files used to record information about how you browse the Site.

Additionally, we may receive Non-Personal Information about you from third party sources, such as public databases, social media platforms, and third-party data providers. This information may include, but is not limited to, demographic information (e.g., age and gender), device information (e.g., IP addresses), and location (e.g., city and state).

Information we collect

In general, the Personal Information you provide to us is used to help us communicate with you. For example, we use Personal Information to contact users in response to questions, solicit feedback from users, provide technical support, and inform users about our offerings through marketing channels.

Except as provided below, we do not sell or share any Personal Information you provide to us unless legally required to do so or with user consent.

By agreeing to the Terms of Use of the Site and this Privacy Policy, you authorize us to share your email address, name, and physical address, to the Winnetka Parks Foundation, a 501(c)(3) not for profit organization whose mission is to support the Winnetka Park District. The Winnetka Parks Foundation is the only affiliate organization we share your information with and the Foundation uses your Personal Information only at our direction and in accordance with our Privacy Policy. If you would prefer that we do not share your information with the Winnetka Parks Foundation, email us at marketing@winpark.org.

The Winnetka Park District contracts with some third parties to provide Internet-related services. The Winnetka Park District discloses Personal Information to third-party service providers when required in order to ensure the accurate operation, protection, security, and maintenance of the services provided to you.

Non-Personal Information

In general, we use Non-Personal Information to help us improve and customize the user experience on the Site. We also aggregate Non-Personal Information in order to track Site trends, analyze Site use patterns, and to assess the success of our marketing and advertising campaigns.

We do not sell or share any Non-Personal Information we collect.

Updating your account information

When you register for any of our programs, events, or other offerings, an account is created for you using the Personal Information you provide. You can access your account to update certain Personal Information about you and/or members of your household. If you are unable to access your account, unable to update the information, or would like to delete your account, contact us at wpdinfo@winpark.org. We will take reasonable steps to verify your identity, such as requiring a password and user ID, and possibly a photo ID before making any requested changes.

Updating your email preferences

At any time, you can click the “update subscription preferences” link at the bottom of a marketing message to update your email preferences.

You can opt-out of receiving marketing emails from us at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link at the bottom of our marketing messages. Please note that some communications (such as messages regarding your online account, important information about programs you are registered for, billing-related information, etc.) are considered transactional and necessary. Users cannot opt out of these messages unless their account is deleted and they do not register for any future Park District programs, events, or utilize our services in any capacity.

We take precautions to protect your information. When you submit sensitive information via the Site, your information is protected both online and offline.

Wherever we collect sensitive information (such as credit card data), that information is encrypted and transmitted to us in a secure way in accordance with industry standard practices. You can verify this by looking for a closed lock icon at the bottom of your web browser, or looking for “https” at the beginning of the address of the web page. We do not save or store any credit card data you provide online.

While we use encryption to protect sensitive information transmitted online, we also protect your information offline. Only employees who need the information to perform a specific job (e.g. billing or customer service) are granted access to the information. The computers/servers on which we store your information are kept in a secure environment and we do not store any credit card information.

Winnetka Park District monitors network traffic to identify unauthorized attempts to upload or change information or to otherwise cause damage to the Site. Anyone using this website expressly consents to such monitoring. Winnetka Park District takes appropriate security measures to protect unauthorized access, alteration or destruction of data.  These measures are designed and intended to prevent corruption of data, block unknown or unauthorized access to our systems and information, and to provide reasonable protection of private information in our possession.

Winnetka Park District will take all reasonable precautions to safeguard the confidentiality of sensitive information, but may NOT be held liable for any injury caused by the disclosure of that information, whether caused by security breach, accident, inadvertence, or any other act resulting in disclosure.

Our Site includes links to other websites whose privacy practices may be different from ours. If you submit Personal Information to any of those sites, your information is governed by their privacy policies. We encourage you to carefully read the privacy policy of any website you visit.

From time-to-time our Site requests information via surveys or contests. Participation in these surveys or contests is completely voluntary and you may choose whether or not to participate and therefore disclose this information. Information requested may include contact information (such as name and email address), and demographic information (such as age and gender). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this Site.

We reserve the right to change this Privacy Policy and our Terms of Use at any time. We will notify you of significant changes to our Privacy Policy by a sending a notice to the primary email address specified in your account. Significant changes will go into effect 30 days following the notification. Non-material changes or clarifications will take effect immediately. You should periodically check this page for updates.
