Comprehensive Master Plan
Background
The Comprehensive and Strategic Plans are the product of Plan! Winnetka Parks – an initiative designed to produce a 10-year comprehensive plan with reviews and recommendations for Park District facilities and open spaces and a 5-year strategic plan. On July 18, 2024, the Winnetka Park District contracted with Berry, Dunn, McNeil & Parker, LLC (BerryDunn) to develop a Comprehensive Master Plan.
Planning + Project Overview
Plan! Winnetka Parks is the Winnetka Park District’s vision for the future—created in partnership with BerryDunn and shaped by the community. In September 2024, residents shared their voices through focus groups, pop-up events, open houses, stakeholder meetings and surveys, helping define priorities for Winnetka’s parks, beaches and recreation system.
Guided by extensive data, facility assessments, and demographic analysis, the resulting six-phase Comprehensive Master Plan outlines a clear path forward. It reflects what matters most to our community – enhancing parks and beaches, programs, and facilities to ensure they continue to inspire and serve Winnetka for years to come.
How to Use the Plan
The Comprehensive Master Plan will be used by the Winnetka Park District as a guide to implement action items with our Strategic Master Plan over the next ten years. This plan is the Winnetka Park District and community’s roadmap and long-term vision for our open spaces and recreational programs for the next decade.
To bring this vision to life, the park district is developing a Strategic Plan – a five-year, living document that translates big-picture aspirations into clear, measurable actions. This plan will set specific objectives, establish short- and mid-term priorities, and inform our annual decision-making process.
Regular updates and reviews will ensure the plan remains responsive to the community’s evolving needs – promoting accountability, transparency, and steady progress toward our shared future.
