Skokie Playfield Synthetic Turf Replacement Project

The Winnetka Park District is moving forward with the replacement of the synthetic turf field at Skokie Playfield. Originally installed in 2013, the current field has provided more than a decade of play and enjoyment for athletes, families, and community members. This replacement project will ensure the continued safety, performance, and longevity of one of Winnetka’s most popular athletic facilities.

The Park District extends its sincere appreciation to the Winnetka Parks Foundation for their generous donation supporting the project’s recycling and sustainability initiatives. The existing turf will be responsibly removed, broken down, and repurposed into new manufacturing materials—ensuring that none of it ends up in a landfill.

To complete the work, the Park District has contracted with Midwest Sports and Turf Systems (MWSTS) for the purchase and installation of Iron Turf, a durable, high-quality surface designed for long-term performance. The new field will feature a sustainable infill and an underlying shock pad to enhance player safety and comfort throughout its lifespan.

There will be no changes to the field’s layout, design, concrete curbing, or drainage system. The overall appearance—including turf color and field markings—will remain the same.

This project supports the Park District’s ongoing mission to provide high-quality recreation opportunities while protecting community assets, natural resources, and open spaces for present and future generations. It also reflects our vision of building an active, vibrant, and sustainable community that promotes healthy lifestyles for residents of all ages through exceptional parks, programs, and partnerships.

Construction will begin November 3, 2025, with completion anticipated by the end of the year.
We thank the community for its patience and look forward to welcoming everyone back to the new field next year!
