The Winnetka Park District Board directed staff to:
- Pause the current zoning application process for Centennial Park & Beach and Elder Lane Park & Beach with the Village of Winnetka.
- Work with consultants to revise the plans for both sites, incorporating feedback from the Village of Winnetka, the Zoning Board of Appeals, and the Plan Commission; and
- Return to the Park Board with updated plans for consideration.
“This direction acknowledges the wide range of community perspectives and allows us to thoughtfully refine our approach,” said Elise Gibson, President of the Winnetka Park District Board of Commissioners. “We remain committed to working collaboratively with the Village and to developing a solution that balances input, respects the review process, and ultimately provides long-term value to the community-including essential shoreline protection that safeguards access and public use well into the future.”
Park District officials noted that while the process has taken time, this action does not diminish the Board’s commitment to completing the projects as quickly and responsibly as possible. Staff will return to the Park Board in July to outline any additional resources needed to support this direction. A timeline for amendment efforts is also expected at that time.
