We are pleased to announce that a settlement agreement has been reached in the matter of Schriesheim v. Winnetka Park District, bringing resolution to the litigation regarding portions of Centennial Park. This positive step forward reflects the District’s commitment to collaboration and finding solutions that align with the best interests of the community.
Under the terms of the agreement, the Winnetka Park District has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the beach property at Centennial Park for public use. The District has agreed not to transfer the title of this property, located east of the steel sheet piling at the toe of the bluff, to any non-governmental entity. In return, the litigation will be dismissed with prejudice, allowing the District to focus fully on its mission of enriching the community through parks, recreation, and open space.
Winnetka Park District Board President Christina Codo shared her thoughts on the resolution:
“This settlement represents an important milestone in moving forward for the benefit of our entire community. It reflects the Park District’s dedication to safeguarding public resources while fostering collaboration and goodwill. We are optimistic about the future and look forward to continuing our work on behalf of the residents of the District.”
The Park District believes that this agreement demonstrates its unwavering commitment to transparency, responsible stewardship of public land, and thoughtful resolution of challenges.
