The Winnetka Park District is making steady progress on the cleanup efforts at Elder Lane and Centennial Beaches.
To date, most debris has been successfully removed from Centennial Beach, and we anticipate reopening it shortly to dog beach pass holders. The anticipated date to re-open Centennial Beach is August 9 (weather permitting).
“We’ve made excellent headway at Centennial,” said Costa Kutulas, Superintendent of Parks and Maintenance. “Our crews have been working hard to clear the site, and we’re excited to welcome back our dog beach pass holders soon.”
Unfortunately, due to unfavorable lake conditions, progress at Elder Lane Beach has been slower than anticipated. The Park District, in close coordination with the Village, continues to prioritize safety and address all conditions before the beach reopens to the public.
The remaining work involves intricate in-water construction, which has extended the overall timeline for Elder Lane Beach. Our priority remains completing all contracted work with the anticipated completion date later in August than originally anticipated.
Given the timing and other scheduled beach summer closures, it is not expected to offer swimming at Elder Lane Beach this summer. However, we look forward to resuming full operations in the 2026 swim season and are eager to welcome the community back for a safe and enjoyable experience next year.
In the meantime, we encourage residents to visit Tower Road Beach or Maple Street Beach for summer beach access.
We thank the community for its continued patience and understanding as we work toward the safe and timely restoration of our lakefront facilities. Further updates will be provided as the project progresses.
