Winnetka, Illinois –
School District 36 and the Winnetka Park District would like to provide an update regarding the “berm”-a parcel of the Crow Island School property at the south end along Mt. Pleasant–and portions of the Crow Island Woods property, owned by the Winnetka Park District. Due to intergovernmental agreements with each organization, it is the responsibility of the Village of Winnetka to restore both the berm and Park District property following its stormwater project, which concluded late this spring. The restoration work requires final approval from the School and Park Districts. As these parcels of land remain under Village restoration efforts, we have elected to erect our own fences around them until we are satisfied with those efforts.
The School Board will be discussing this issue at a Facility Subcommittee meeting on Tuesday, September 10 at 9:00 am in the Washburne Dance Studio. Please enter through the District Office doors at 1235 Oak Street. Similarly, the Winnetka Park District will be discussing these concerns regarding Village property restoration at their regular Committee of Whole Board meeting on Thursday, September 12 at 6:00 pm in the Winnetka Park District main office Community Room. If you are interested in listening to the Board discussion on this topic, we would encourage you to attend either of these public meetings. The Winnetka Park District Committee of the Whole Meeting will be streamed live through the Park District website.
We are hopeful for a quick and satisfactory resolution to this matter. In the meantime, designated play spaces on the Crow Island School property and open spaces at Crow Woods remain safe and accessible to students and neighbors.
Most Sincerely,
Dr. Kelly Tess, Superintendent of Schools, and Shannon Q. Nazzal, Executive Director for Winnetka Park District
