Join us on Wednesday, June 18 to celebrate the reopening of Happ Road Park + Playground from 1:30 – 2:30pm. The community is invited to a FREE Ice Cream Social. Play on the new equipment, check out the new resurfaced basketball courts and the safety measures we added to this beloved park.
More about the Project:
Happ Road Park + Playground has a rich history. It was originally purchased in 1976 from the Holder and Carlson families, and just a year later, in 1977, the first wooden playground, basketball courts, pathways, benches, and landscaping were installed.
In 1986, a new playground replaced the original wooden structure, followed by more improvements in 2000, including a concrete-curbed play-pit, updated equipment, benches, a paver sidewalk, and a drinking fountain.
Fast forward to today, and we’re proud to unveil the latest transformation of this special space -one that was shaped with valuable input from our neighboring residents during a series of public meetings held in 2024. The new playground has been carefully designed for our youngest park-goers, ages 2 to 5 yrs old. You’ll find a new play unit with several roofed platforms to provide shade, along with slides, climbers, play panels, a toy vehicle track, and a play table. We’ve added a climbing wall, talk tubes, and a swing structure – all within a slightly expanded layout to ensure a safe and fun experience that meets national playground standards.
Accessibility was a top priority in this project. The play equipment now features wood fiber surfacing and access ramps, making it fully inclusive for all children to enjoy.
We’ve also added a dedicated sand play area, thoughtfully separated by a low stone seat wall to help define the space for younger children. A new sidewalk was installed to create a fenced area along the layout, designed to reduce the chance of children running toward Happ Road – a simple but critical safety enhancement. Additional landscaping has been installed to improve shade and drainage, and just this spring, the basketball court was freshly resurfaced, giving it a new life for pickup games for residents.
