Winnetka, IL; November 8, 2023 –
In 2023, the Dwyer Park Butterfly Garden was added to the Smithsonian Institution’s Archives of American Gardens!
This accomplishment was made possible by the hard work and dedication of the Winnetka Garden Guild. The process of submitting a garden to the Archives can span over a couple years due to the paperwork, obtaining photographic images during the four seasons, and more. We sat down with Winnetka Garden Guild members Meg O’Gara, 14-year members, and Pam Benz, 27-year member, to celebrate their documentation into the Archives, and discuss what the Guild does for the Dwyer Park Butterfly Garden. Learn more about Dwyer Park and the Butterfly Garden at https://www.winpark.org/beach_park/dwyer-park/.
The Archives of American Gardens is an archive dedicated to preserving documentation and content of gardens within the United States. This archive gives access to a collection of 65,000+ photographic images and records of 6,500+ gardens across the nation.
We have four videos that we are sharing on our social media pages (Facebook + Instagram) for the next four weeks. Each week, we will share the Facebook posts that will show our interviews with Winnetka Garden Guild members, Meg O’Gara and Pam Benz, who share with us their documentation into the Archives and discuss the work the Guild does for our beautiful Dwyer Park Butterfly Garden.
