5.22 acres (Neighborhood Park)

  • Acquired: 1968-69. Purchased from C.A. Hemphill, Inc. for $550,000.00

Centennial Park is the southernmost of the five parks that line Winnetka’s lakefront. The upper bluff consists of a large landscaped lawn area that is encircled by winding walks and benches.  A pathway with engraved bricks dedicated to pets and a lower bluff sidewalk adjacent to the stone outcroppings of the Babize Memorial, provide excellent views of Lake Michigan.  A parking lot with space for 11 vehicles is located on the northwest corner of the site.

The beach itself is Winnetka’s dedicated dog beach.  Accessed by an electronic gate and steps, the sand and water provide a place where unleashed dogs and their owners can play freely.  A dog wash station is located at the top of the stairway.  Dogs must remain leashed in the upper portion of the park.
