Winnetka Water Explorers Camp

Grades: 5-9
Dates: June 18 to August 10
Location: Lloyd Beach (799 Sheridan Road)

Does your child love the lake? Have them join the Winnetka Park District for this camp designed to satisfy the part-fish in your child. Children will engage in a multitude of water based activities including sailing, paddle boarding, kayaking, and swimming. On rainy days, campers will play board games and do various indoor activities inside the Lloyd Boat House. Full day program (camps that run 9:15am to 2:15pm) include a supervised lunch break from 11:15-12pm.

Camp requirements: All children must provide their own Type III, United States Coast Guard approved life jacket.

Junior Sailing Summer Camp

Grades: 5-9
Dates: June 18 to August 10
Location: Lloyd Beach (799 Sheridan Road)

Have your child learn how to sail on Lake Michigan this summer! Qualified instructors will teach students how to wind, weather, rig and de-rig a boat, right a boat, and much more with an emphasis on fun and safety. In addition to learning how to sail, students will be exposed to kayaking on two person kayaks. Classes will be held at the Lloyd Beach House (rain or shine).Various activities will be available for days when sailing is not available.

Camp requirements: All children must provide their own Type III, United States Coast Guard approved life jacket.

Kayak + Stand-Up Paddleboard (SUP) Camp

Ages: 10-14
Dates: August 13 – August 17
Location: Lloyd Beach (799 Sheridan Road) & Skokie Lagoons

Campers will find adventure out on the water learning to kayak and stand up paddleboard in Lake Michigan and the Skokie Lagoons! Staff from The Northwest Passage will combine structured lessons and games with water and vessel safety to create an educational and exciting environment. Instructors will share their knowledge of wind, wave and weather conditions to further camper’s safety and confidence on the water.

Each day will start with games to get campers warmed up. Next, participants will learn essential gear and safety rules. Finally, everyone will head into the water with their kayaks or SUPs to apply the day’s lesson. Camp meets at the Skokie Lagoons on Thursday. Other camp days take place at Lloyd Beach. Transportation to and from Skokie Lagoons is not provided.

Camp requirements: Campers must be able to swim 50 feet. Each camper will be required to wear a personal flotation device at all times while in the water.
