COVID-19 Camp Information

Waitlist: If a camp’s status says waitlist, we encourage you to still sign up! This will hold a spot for you in the event another participant drops out or we are able to accommodate more campers.

2020 Camp Changes

Your child’s health and safety is our top priority. Park District staff have worked hard to reformat our camps to create as safe of an environment as we can for all campers. Below is a comprehensive list of the adjustments made.

Smaller Camp Sizes
The size of each camp has been drastically reduced so that we can maintain small groups of 10 children or less. This will allow children to spread out and ensure that staff are able to monitor and enforce social distancing. The anticipated camper to staff ratio will be 10:2 for all camps.

Outdoors (when possible)
All camps will be held outdoors. Camp will only be moved indoors during inclement weather. While indoors, campers will remain in small groups of 10 or less and will participate in activities that allow them to keep a social distance from others.

Sanitizing & Cleaning
Campers and staff will be required to wash their hands when they arrive at camp, before they leave, and whenever soiled. All staff will carry hand sanitizer at all times for themselves and campers to use. High touch surfaces and objects will be sanitized before and after camp and in between time blocks.

Staff & Training
In addition to our regular counselor training, all staff will receive extensive training on proper COVID-19 safety and health procedures.

Field Trips Canceled
All field trips, beach days and other excursions have been canceled.

Face Coverings
All staff and campers will be required to wear a face covering indoors, during drop-off/pick-up or when maintaining a safe social distance is not possible. Face coverings will not be required while outdoors when adequate physical distance can be kept.

Campers will be responsible for bringing their own face covering each day.

Adjusted Age Groups
In order to spread children out evenly over the limited locations we have, we’ve adjusted the age ranges for each of our camps. Be sure to check the new age ranges when signing up.

To keep camp outdoors as much as possible and to allow for appropriate social distancing, we’ve had to change the location of our camps. All camps will take place on various Park District properties that have indoor options in the event of inclement weather.

Camp will be broken into two sessions: June 22 – July 17 and July 20 – August 14. Days have been split into two time blocks: 9am-12:30pm and 1:30-5pm. At this time, we are limiting registration to one session and one time block. If space and logistics allow, we may grant already registered participants the opportunity to sign up for additional sessions and time blocks.

Select Weeks
Participants must register for the full four-week session. Select weeks and/or select days will not be available this summer.

Before/After Camp
Due to location restrictions, before and after camp will not be available this summer.

Although we have made these adjustments, there is always a risk of being exposed to COVID-19 when participating in group activities. We encourage parents to consider and properly weigh these risks for their child and family and only do what they feel most comfortable with.
