Winnetka Park District Welcomes North Shore Country Day to our A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center Family

Posted August 02, 2018

On June 28, 2018 the Winnetka Park District Board of Commissioners approved a licensing agreement with North Shore Country Day for utilization of the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center outdoor courts. This nine-year commitment, (3) three year terms, makes the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center the home courts for North Shore Country Day’s girls and boys tennis teams starting in the fall of 2018.

“We are excited to welcome North Shore Country Day as part of the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center family”, said Tennis Center Manager, Pat Fragassi. “We look forward to providing a home where these young tennis players can hone their skills and be competitive.”

A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center is currently home to the New Trier High School tennis teams and that relationship will continue. The Tennis Center staff will coordinate with both schools to accommodate their training schedules and home team matches, which will be primarily after school and some weekends during the fall and spring.  This arrangement does not interfere with the A.C. Tennis Center’s lesson program, which utilizes the indoor courts in the fall and spring.

A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center is a facility of the Winnetka Park District. Players can enjoy year round tennis at the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center as the facility features eight indoor and 12 outdoor courts (five lighted), a nursery, pro shop, shower/locker room facilities and public access Wi-Fi. This full-service facility offers lessons for all ages, leagues, court rentals, membership and events year round. For more information visit, winpark.org/tennis or call (847) 501-2065.

Sunshine, Water and Sand Oh my!

Posted July 11, 2018

When you think of Summer, what’s the first thing that comes to your mind?

For us at the Winnetka Park District, it’s the beach. Our beaches offer open water to swim in, plenty of sand to play on, and lots of space for families to enjoy.

Even your four legged family members can join you at the Centennial Dog Beach so everyone can get in on the fun!

In Winnetka we know every day spent at the beach is a special day, but we like to go above and beyond to pack your Summer full of new and exciting events.

July 14th we’ll be having a Water Carnival at Tower Road beach from 10:00am- 12:30pm. The carnival happens to fall close to national hot dog day, so of course free hotdogs will be provided. On top of the games and activities we have planned, we will also host a sandcastle building contest.

At the same beach on Saturday July 28th, there will also be a Family Camp Out starting at 7:00pm ending at 10:00am Sunday. We’ll provide games, a movie, and refreshments as well as the option to cook your own food using the grills on the beach. Our movie of choice is Finding Dory, which you can see for free if you aren’t planning on spending the night. The sound of the waves will wake you up in the morning and we’ll greet you with a continental breakfast before the camp out comes to an end.

Our last Summer beach event is the Farewell to Summer Family Luau also located on Tower Road Beach. This event is scheduled for Saturday August 25th from 4:00-7:00pm. There will be dinner, swimming, and games followed by a performance from The Barefoot Hawaiian Dancers.

Your golden ticket to enjoy some fun in the sun at Tower Road beach this Summer is a Winnetka Beach pass. Admission to every event is either free or lowered with the purchase of a pass, and you’ll have access to our beaches all Summer!

Take advantage of everything these short summer months have to offer by spending them outside at the beach, we’ll see you there!

New Tower Road Beach House Enhancements

Posted May 07, 2018

The Winnetka Park District is making a few enhancements to the Tower Road Beach House which will have a positive impact for our residents and patrons this upcoming beach season and beyond. The most impactful change will be the reconversion of the restrooms to allow access beyond staffed hours of operation. This will be accomplished through a timed lock entrance to the restrooms, while eliminating access to other areas of the facility. “Our official start of the swim beach season is early June, but we recognize that as the weather improves we have more visitors to the lakefront”, said John Shea, Superintendent of Recreation. “This change allows us to be more accommodating without extending the length of our season and daily hours of supervised operations.”

These enhancements will improve the existing function of the facility including, expanded staff visibility, improved access to the restrooms, and a new water chiller. A majority of the project, including restroom access, is expected to be completed by Memorial Day weekend.
