Youth Basketball House League
Interested in playing in the Winnetka Park District House League? Registration deadline is Thursday, October 30 at 5:00 pm. Anyone signing up after that date will be placed on a wait list and assigned to a team if spaces
are available and team balance is not affected. A late registration fee of $25 will apply.

Teams are selected at the end of the evaluation clinic. Participants must attend one session. See schedule below! Participants are notified by their coaches between November 17-21.

Each coach determines his/her team practice schedule. Tentative team practice times are 6:00-7:00 pm, 7:00-8:00 pm or 8:00-9:00 pm, Monday-Thursday.

Games are played on Saturdays starting at 9:00 am for the 3rd/4th grade girls, 5th/6th grade boys, 5th/6th grade girls and 7th/8th girls. 4th grade boys, as well as 7th/8th grade boys play as the day progresses. (Game times will be determined after teams are formed.) The first game is December 6. Championship games will be played on Friday, February 27.

Coach Training Course
The American Sports Education Program (ASEP) offers coaches training in sport science, practice development and team management. This course is required for all new Winnetka Park District coaches and is strongly encouraged for experienced coaches. All who attend will become a certified volunteer coach. (Register for one class.)

4th-6th Grade Travel Basketball
The Winnetka Park District will hold tryouts for three girls’ and six boys’ Travel Basketball teams – two boys’ and one girls’ team for each grade. The teams will play in the North Suburban League and will have games mainly on the weekends.

Playing on the Winnetka Park District Travel team requires a serious commitment from all participants. Each team will practice during the week and play games most weekends. The season will run from mid-October through mid-March.

To try out for a team, you must pre-register and pay a $5 non-refundable tryout fee by September 26. The fee will be deducted from the registration fee if you make the team.

Tryouts will be in October for residents only. Look for further information in a separate flyer mailed out right after Labor Day.

Adult Men’s Basketball

Winnetka Basketball Association (WBA)
The Winnetka Basketball Association is a separate, parent run program that provides an additional opportunity to play on a competitive traveling basketball team. Tryouts are open to all 7th and 8th grade boys who have not committed to any travel team. More information will be sent out in early September through Washburne School regarding fall tryouts.

Girls’ Instructional Basketball
Girls will learn the basic skills of dribbling, shooting, passing, and defense through various drills that they can practice at home.

There will be no class November 22.

NEW! RMG Hoops Group Training
The Winnetka Park District and RMG Hoops are teaming up to bring RMG’s basketball training to Winnetka. Beginning in the fall of 2008, RMG will be moving their pre-season workouts to the new Washburne School gyms for boys and girls in First grade through High School. If you are interested in getting ready for the WPD travel basketball tryouts or gearing up to play WPD house league in December, the training will be geared towards improving skills in a fun environment!

All workouts will include several grades, but players will be separated in to smaller groups by age and skill level. Each player will receive coaching and instruction on the basketball basics by RMG’s experienced staff. Players may sign up for more than one session in their age group.

NEW! RMG Hoops Winter Camp
Beginning winter break 2008, RMG’s experienced coaching staff will be offering a winter camp at the new Washburne gym for boys and girls ages 6-14. The RMG Winter Camp was designed to help kids maintain and build on their skills and conditioning over winter break. This camp is challenging, competitive and most of all fun! Players are assigned teams for the week and run through a gamut of drills and games with each team competing against each other. Drills cover speed, endurance, ball handling, lay-ups and shooting.
