East of Sheridan Road at Maple Street

3.00 acres (Neighborhood Park)

Structure: Beach House

  • Acquired: 1905.  Purchased from the Boyden family

Maple Street Park is the smallest of the five parks bordering Lake Michigan but the first purchased by the Winnetka Park District. The grassy upper bluff east of Sheridan Road provides picnic tables, benches, a drinking fountain, and nice panorama over the lake.

The beach is accessed via a service drive and a series of stairs.  The beach house has two levels.  The upper floor has a large meeting room, available for rental, with bathroom facilities.  The lower floor also has a meeting room and restrooms adjacent to the swimming beach.  A boardwalk provides places to sit.  The pier that extends into Lake Michigan is also a good spot for relaxing and admiring the views.
