Skokie Playfield Construction Update
7/31/2012
As you may be aware, the Winnetka Park District has developed a Master Plan for Skokie Playfield. In this plan, the Park Board identified 0-3 year initiatives, which has been separated into two phases.
The first phase will result in some inconvenience for the community for approximately the next 60 days as a new parking lot in front of the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Center and the Administrative Offices is being redesigned and constructed. Parking for all Skokie Playfield facilities are available behind the Winnetka Ice Arena and the outdoor tennis courts. All access will be through the Oak St. entrance during the duration of the parking lot project. There will be limited room in the parking lot at Washburne School when school is not in session. Improvements being made to the Tennis Center will not adversely affect parking once the parking lot is reopened. The Tennis Center addition is projected to be completed early 2013.
Phase two of the project is the water management project on the athletic fields of the Skokie Playfield and the driving range. This project will begin sometime during the month of October 2012 and will extend deep into the 2013 calendar year. The project is expected to generate significant truck travel along Hibbard Road and Willow Road (west) for 6-8 months as a significant amount of earth will be moved to create the storage for water when it rains. The first stage is the completion of the synthetic turf fields. It is projected these fields will be ready for use in late May, 2013. The natural turf fields will be ready for use in the summer of 2014. The golf course driving range will be ready for use in May of 2013.
We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as this important project is completed. It will not only enhance recreation opportunities but play into the community’s need for better stormwater management solutions.
