The Winnetka Ice Arena offers a comprehensive hockey skating class program. These classes are designed to teach the aspiring hockey player the most important fundamentals needed to participate in hockey. Whether your objective is to learn basic skating, improve hockey skills, or simply learn skating on a recreational basis, we have something for you. Classes are taught by highly qualified instructors who make learning FUN for the individual.

Safety Note: Participants in all classes must wear a hockey helmet.

Limited loaner equipment is available.

Ice Mice 4 - 5.5 years
Participants wear hockey skates and have little or no experience. Class will focus on how to adjust to hockey skates, fall and stand, balance and forward stride. Our goal is to build the foundation of hockey skating skills in a fun environment. Students receive their own “ICE MICE” Jersey.

No prior experience necessary. Proper stance, beginning forward strides, gliding and stopping are taught. Students will receive an “Ice Dogs” jersey to wear in class.

Ice Bears 6 years & older

Full strides, 1 foot glides, backwards stance, beginning crossovers and turns are taught. Students will receive an “Ice Bears” jersey to wear in class.

Little Warriors
5.5 - 6.5 years
(Prerequisite: 2 sessions of Ice Mice or instructor recommendation)

Little Warriors is designed to give the aspiring hockey player instruction on skating in addition to stick handling and shooting. We emphasize fundamentals while incorporating fun drills and games. Helmet with mask, shin pads, elbow pads, and gloves are required. We provide a jersey and a hockey stick.

Three “S”: Creative Skating, Stick Handling & Shooting 6 - 8 years
This class gives advanced skaters the opportunity to improve skating skills while becoming more comfortable handling the puck and shooting. Skaters should have strong skating skills.

Required equipment: helmet with mask, shin pads, elbow pads, gloves, and hockey stick.
