Summer Ice Cream Social

Join the new Winnetka Park District Executive Director, Robert Smith along with Park Board representatives and other key staff members at one of the four planned FREE “Summer Socials”. This casual and relaxed setting is the perfect place to get to know Bob a little better, learn more about park endeavors and share your thoughts and ideas with any of the Winnetka Park District representatives. Bring the whole family out to enjoy an after dinner free ice cream treat with neighbors and friends.

Pirates Family Camp Out

7 pm at Tower Road Beach

Families are invited to join the Winnetka Park District for a great way to spend the fi rst Saturday of August. Beginning at 7 pm families can start setting up their camp site. Grills will be available for families to prepare hotdogs, hamburgers, brats, etc. (Participants provide own food.)

Thanks to our partnership with BMO Harris Bank, at 8:30 pm we will show Pirates of the Caribbean 3 At World’s End. During the movie a bonfire will be supervised by Lakefront Staff and children will be able to roast marshmallows and make s’mores. In the morning a continental breakfast will be provided for all participants.

This is a family only event. Families with tents will be the only ones allowed to spend the night at Tower Road Beach. For more information, please contact John Shea at 847-501-2072. Advanced registration is required by August 1.

Father/Son Baseball Stadium Tour - U.S. Cellular Field

Anyone can take their child to a baseball game, but not everyone can say they’ve been in the dugout of their favorite team! Celebrate America’s favorite pastime with your son on this entertaining stadium tour experience. Whether you’re a diehard Northsider, Southsider, or just a fan of the sport, anyone is welcome to register for either or both tours.Transportation to and from the stadium will be provided.

Ages: 5 years and older with adult
Location: WPD Community Room, 540 Hibbard Rd.
Fee: $40 per couple, per event / $20 per additional child

Winnetka Par 3 Junior Tournament Series - "The Majors"

The Winnetka Golf Club is offering an entry level tournament series for juniors. The goal is for players to experience a fun, low pressure competitive atmosphere. Players are eligible to sign up for a single event or the entire series. All tournaments are one day stroke playevents with flights by age.

Tournament Dates
• Saturday, May 17 (Par 3 Masters)
• Sunday, June 15 (Winnetka Par 3 Jr. Open)
• Saturday, July 19 (Par 3 Players Championship)
• Sunday, August 17 (Skokie Playfield Championship)
• Saturday, September 20 (Par 3 Cup)

Participants will receive a tee gift. Awards will be given to the winners of each flight. Participants will be flighted based on age.

Each day throughout the week we will feature a “playday” in a different park. You’ll also fi nd a box of “loose parts” to spark children’s creativity as they play along with other surprises. This is a wonderful way for families to come together to play, to discover new play spaces, and to promote the importance of children’s unstructured play.

Please Note: No adult supervision is provided at the parks. This is not a drop off program. Parents are responsible for their own children at each park.

Teen B2SB^2 (Back To School Beach Bash)

Teens in Middle School (5th-8th Grade) come on down to Tower Road Beach to unwind. There will be a live DJ taking requests, food and games. This event will be supervised by Winnetka Park District Staff.

Farewell to Summer Family Luau

4 - 7:30 pm at Tower Road Beach

Do not pack up the swim suits just yet! Tower Road Beach will re-open for one more day for families to get together and say goodbye to summer, Luau style. Lifeguards will come back to guard the water from 4 - 6 pm and food will be served thoughout the event along with music performed by Barefoot Hawaiian. From 6:30-7:30 pm there will be a live luau dance and fire show.

Advanced registration is required by September 2 at 5 pm.

Fall Fest

Join us for our annual Fall Fest event with a later start time to help those busy families get through typical Saturday activities and afternoon naps. It’s a night off from cooking and family fun for everyone.The evening caps off with a showing of the movie Frozen. All children’s activities will conclude prior to the movie but food and beverages will still be available.

4th Annual Winnetka Whiffle Ball Challenge

Show everyone you can be the King of the Sandlot with the 4th annual Winnetka Whiffle Ball Challenge. Held in conjunction with Fall Fest, this tournament will pit the best whiffle ball players in town against each other in a mission to win the coveted Championship Cup. Teams will consist of 5 players.

Bike Winnetka

Bike Winnetka takes bicycle riders of all ages through scenic Winnetka in a group ride format. (All riders must wear a helmet or will be unable to participate.) Thanks to the generosity of our partners, the cost of this event is only $6 per person. For additional information about the ride, volunteer opportunities,partners, cheering along the route and packet pick up click here . . .

Craft Beer Tasting at the Range

at the WGC Driving Range

Enjoy unlimited use of the driving range (clubs provided if needed),and sample fifteen 3 oz. tastings along with appetizers (additional tasting may be purchased on site). Avli Café will guide you through the tasting menu. In addition to the craft beer tasting, there will be a kid’s only area where they can enjoy use of the practice facility.

Each participant will receive a commemorative glass and the opportunity to enter a raffle loaded with exciting gifts (including beach passes, range passes and golf rounds). This is the perfect occasion to experience what the Winnetka Golf club and the newly renovated driving range has to offer.

Pumpkins on the Beach

Tower Road Beach will be transformed into a pumpkin patch for family fun this Halloween season. There will be pumpkin decorating, carnival games, and lots of excitement. The Costume Contest will start around 5:30pm ending at 6:10 p.m. The costume categories include: most original, scariest, funniest, and most decked out. Please be aware that this is a family friendly event but there will still be sound effects, props, and staff in costumes, but it is not designed to scare children.

Lloyd Beach's Haunted Trail Of Terror

Dare to be scared by the spirits that haunted Lloyd Beach? Every year on the last Saturday of October the spirits return to Lloyd Beach to claim what is rightfully theirs and haunt the souls who dare to stop them. Some say they were lost at sea, other say that they used to own Lloyd Beach and want it back, but they all say DO NOT go to the beach when the spirits are present. For the daring souls that choose to make it down the beach they will visit the graveyard of the spirits, walk along the Haunted Trail of Terror, enter the Haunted Boathouse (at your own risk), and experience hair-raising thrills. For inclement weather check the weather hotline at 847-446-0080 for potential cancellations.

Fee: $5 per person (pay at the door)

Gobble Bowl

Have a dying passion for football? Do you get together with friends every Sunday morning before the Bears kick-off at noon to play flag football? Bring your team to the annual Gobble Bowl, flag football tournament, the first Saturday
