You have all received a golden ticket to come see the showing of “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” at Hubbard Woods Park. Be prepared to enter the Chocolate Factory of candy and entertainment. Hot dogs and snacks will be available for purchase.

Pure of heart Charlie Bucket (Peter Ostrum) along with four grossly gluttonous girls and boys win the opportunity to tour eccentric recluse Willy Wonka’s (Gene Wilder) magical candy factory and the chance to win a lifetime supply of chocolate in this adaptation of Roald Dahl’s classic. One-by-one, the children are undone by their own greed as the group sails down chocolate rivers and becomes part of Wonkavision until only Charlie is left to claim a prize even more grand than a lifetime of chocolate.

Presented in Partnership with BMO Harris Bank.

Concessions will be available through Grand Food Center. Make an evening out of it and picnic at the park.

7th Heaven Concert
7/18/2012

7-8:30 pm
One of Chicagoland’s Favorite Bands at Hibbard Woods Park

This is the premier Chicago festival act according to prominent talent buyers in Illinois. The critically acclaimed website “Barstar” refers to 7th Heaven as one of the 3 best bands in Chicago. (They couldn’t or wouldn’t pick just one.) 30 songs in 30 minutes. Believe it can’t be done? WATCH! Dead on renditions of Def Leopard, The Beatles, Bon Jovi, Journey and even U2 are delivered at a frenetic pace driving audiences to literally be dancing in the streets. Musicianship, theatrics, and that unmistakable Irish brogue fuel original songs that came straight from the radio play-list. Are you a Cubs fan? Listen for 7th Heaven all summer long during telecasts and you will hear their current smash hit “This Summer’s Gonna Last Forever”. How about you Bulls fans? 7th Heaven performed the National Anthem at the United Center before the Bulls/ Lakers game which was televised worldwide. This is the band your neighbors will be buzzing about for the rest of the summer. While the festivals only last a short time, for 7th Heaven’s fans, old and new a like, they will remember the experience of seeing and hearing them now because, as their song says - This Summer’s Gonna Last Forever!

Mr. Myers Concert
8/15/2012

7-8:30 pm
Caribbean Rock At It’s Finest at Hubbard Woods Park

Mr. Myers blends the tropical sounds of calypso and ska, the rhythms of reggae and a little rock-n-roll with some favorite classic tunes to create their own special style of music - Caribbean Rock. Mr. Myers’ unique combination of musical styles may be difficult to define and perhaps challenging to play, but it never fails to entertain audiences everywhere, young and old.

The band’s upbeat sound creates a carefree mood; its musical message is not one based heavily on politics or religion. Their cleverly arranged cover tunes and energetic original songs get audiences on their feet in no time. It’s no wonder that Mr. Myers continues to set new attendance records everywhere they play.

When you are looking for a truly entertaining and extremely danceable band for your special occasion, remember the distinctive Caribbean sounds of Mr. Myers.

Each day throughout the week we will feature a “playday” in a different park. Look for the Park-A-Day Challenge sign at each park. You’ll also find a box of “loose parts” to spark children’s creativity as they play. There will be storytime in selected parks at 10 am or 4 pm, presented by our local libraries (check the schedule below). Imagination Playground (generously loaned by the Kohl Children’s Museum), which allows children an assortment of movable objects to invent, transform, and build their own play spaces, will be available on selected days. This is a wonderful way for families to come together to play, to discover new play spaces, and to promote the importance of children’s unstructured play. For more information, please visit www.TheAllianceForEC.org.

Please Note: No adult supervision is provided at the parks. This is not a drop off program. Parents are responsible for their own children at each park.
